Shri T S Srinivasan the youngest son of Shri T V Sundaram iyengar, founder of the TVS Group companies, was born on 28th OCT 1922 at Madurai in Tamilnadu. Soon after school and college he joined his father’s growing business. As he had a great affinity for automobile engineering as well as the enthusiasm, he proved to be a real asset to the group. he was deputed to General Motor Corporation, USA, where for four years he underwent extensive training in the areas of Service, Business, Administration and Marketing.

On his return to India from USA in 1950 Shri T S Srinivasan implemented an extensive modernization program for all the automobile repair shops of the Group. During this period the TVS Madurai Service Station was considered the largest in Asia. He also modernized the Group’s Tyre retreating facilities which today, thanks to his acumen, have grown to become the largest tyre retreating network in India.

In the fifties, Shri TS Srinivasan foresaw the potential that existed in the manufacturing field and was instrumental in TVS decision to enter into the manufacture of auto ancillaries. Today the fruits of that vision can be seen in Group’s various manufacturing units at Pedi on the outskirts of Chennai. He along his brothers negotiated with internal organizations, like Dunlop, Lucas, Girling, Clayton Dewander all of the UK and a bex corporation of USA. The result was the TVS Group Companies.

He sensed automobile needs decades earlier and could therefore successfully identify products as also manufacturing projects. One classic example of his great foresight is the groups Moped plant at Hosur. In 1975, when he conceived the idea of manufacturing of Mopeds, few in India considered the moped as the right choice for personalized transportation. For several years till then the annual production of mopeds was only around 30000 vehicles. Many doubted the wisdom of his going in for a licensed capacity of 60000 mopods per annum and considered it overambitious. However history has proved Shri T S Srinivasan to be right.
Shri T S Srinivasan’s great strength was his human approach to personal problems. He was noted for his understanding of human suffering and eagerness to mitigate the same. He was especially very generous meet the medical needs of employees. He was good and kind towards his employees almost to a fault, his assistance and advice being always there to anybody without distinction of grade or level of employee.
Shri T S Srinivasan was always full of dynamism. Unfortunately, he did not live to see the TVS Moped plant at Hosur reach the proportions he dreamt off. He passed on the 30th of April 1979 at the age of 57.
Every year we celebrate Founder’s Birth Anniversary which gives us opportunity to share and spread the message of our Founder Shri T S Srinivasan.

This year his 87th Birth Anniversary falls on 29th October 2010.
